Tabs and windows

The sidebar

Tabs that stay where you put them. Favorites at the top, then pinned tabs and folders, then everything else.

This page is a first draft. It may change before the public beta.

The sidebar runs down the left side of the window and holds everything in the current space.

Recording planned

Drag a tab into Pinned, drop it into a folder, rename the folder, then nest a second folder inside it. Finish by clicking Clear on the unpinned tabs.

Three sections

SectionWhat lives there
FavoritesA grid of tiles for the sites you use everywhere. They belong to the profile, so they show in every space of it.
PinnedPinned tabs and folders. They keep their place until you move them.
Unpinned tabsEverything else you open. Clear sends them all to the Tab Archive.

Drag a tab into Favorites or Pinned to keep it there, or press ⌘B to pin the current tab.

Pinned tabs and Favorites keep a saved page

A pinned tab or Favorite remembers the page you saved. When you close it with ⌘W, Arx unloads it and resets it to that page instead of deleting it. To save where it is now, choose Update Saved URL from its menu.

Folders

  • New Folder from the Tabs menu, a folder's menu (New Subfolder) or the command bar. Folders can hold folders.
  • ⌘Return on a folder opens its tabs; ⇧⌘Return opens its subfolders' tabs too.
  • Ungroup Folder (⇧⌘G) keeps the tabs and removes the folder.
  • Delete Folder and Tabs (Delete) closes everything inside, after each page agrees to close.

Renaming, reordering, ungrouping and deleting folders can be undone with Undo Organization Change.

Rename anything

Press Return on a row, or double-click a tab, to rename it. Your title sticks through pinning, unpinning, duplicating and moves to another profile.

Drag, select, move

  • Drag rows to reorder them, or into Favorites, Pinned and folders.
  • ⌘Click or ⇧Space marks several rows. They move together, in the order you picked them.
  • Move Items… (⇧⌘M) moves the marked rows to another space or folder without dragging.
  • Dropping into a space of another profile asks first, because the pages reopen with that profile's cookies.

A tab's menu

Right-click a tab for Peek, the copy options (original, clean, Markdown, proxy), Rename…, Add a pane, Duplicate Tab, Move Items…, Unpin Tab and Close. Copy and share act on every marked tab when you right-click one of them.

Width, hiding and the Library

  • Drag the sidebar's edge to resize it, and double-click the edge to reset it. Each window keeps its own width.
  • ⌘S hides the sidebar. Hover the left edge to show it.
  • The Library button at the bottom opens Media, Downloads, Spaces and the Archive. Right-click it for quick commands such as New Space and Reopen Last Closed.
