Tabs and windows

Split View

Two pages in one window, side by side or stacked. The split stays one item in the sidebar.

This page is a first draft. It may change before the public beta.

Keep the docs next to the code review, or the spec next to the design.

Recording planned

Right-click a tab, choose Add a pane, pick a second page from the command bar, drag the divider, then change the orientation.

Make a split

Choose Add a pane from a tab's menu, the View menu, the Library's Split View menu or the command bar. The new pane opens the command bar so you can pick its page; dismiss it and the pane closes again.

Work in a split

CommandWhat it does
Focus other paneMoves the focus to the other page
Swap panesSwaps the two pages
Change split orientationSide by side or stacked
Close paneCloses the active pane. Its tab stays in the sidebar.

Drag the divider to resize the panes. None of these has a default key; you can add them in Settings → Shortcuts.

The sidebar highlights a split's tabs as one group, and each space remembers its own split.

Planned
Splits of up to four tabs, built by dropping a tab onto another tab or onto the edge of a page, shown as one segmented row in the sidebar.
